One of the keys to the ASEC Group’s continual improvement of its HSE performance is training on environmental, health and safety issues.

Training program are targeted at all Group employees and are adjusted to address specific needs based on the duties of each employee in different HSE areas. In 2010, the Group launched Zero Harm Project at all the group subsidiaries with a sound HSE training program where minimum 10 training hours per employees decided to be conducted in the cement manufacturing and batch plants to assure that the Zero Harm training program became a Part of the Group Culture In 2011 the decided number of HSE training hours to be conducted by the Group in the cement sector and ready mixed concrete is 20 training hours per employee to improve HSE performance. The HSE training program “Zero Harm Project” had a dual objective:

• To develop knowledge and technical skills in the area of safety in the Group workplace and of safeguarding the environment;
• To contribute to promoting awareness of the impact that one’s conduct can have on company processes and to promoting safety in one’s own workspace as a fundamental responsibility of each employee – i.e. to enhance the culture of personal prevention and the safeguarding of co-workers and the workplace.

The group dedicated a sound budget to implement the following Zero Harm Project training initiatives. There are 16 training initiatives to be provided from January to August 2011 regarded:
1. Safety culture in the company
2. Risks related to quarries activities
3. Risks related to the use of lifting and heavy equipment
4. Accident risks “Identify hazards, control risks”
5. Working at heights: risk of falling
6. Risks related to workplace hygiene or other health-related risks
7. Lockout / Tag out procedure: risk of electrocution
8. Training of fire-safety personnel and first aid training
9. Occupational health and safety legislation
10. Waste management
11. Noise and air pollution
12. Dust emissions within the plants
13. Training on the Group’s HSE System Management and integration with other standards
14. Defensive Driving Technique for Group drivers
15. Zero Harm Project: take care, keep alive for workers and contractors
16. Course on unsafe conduct for supervisors.
